The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, June 24, rejected a petition by TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to fast-track hearing on his plea seeking the court’s permission to travel abroad for ophthalmic treatment.

This comes after Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday moved a plea before the single-judge bench of Justice Saugata Bhattacharya seeking permission to travel abroad for ophthalmic treatment. Along with this, he moved another petition for a fast-track hearing.

The High Court, however, clearly stated that there was no reason to grant a fast-track hearing in the case, besides noting that the matter will come up for hearing in the normal course, IANS reported.

This comes after West Bengal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) questioned Banerjee twice in connection with the ongoing probe in the signature mismatch case.

The case relates to the signatures of some TMC MLAs on the crucial resolution pertaining to appointments for some slots in the West Bengal Assembly which are reserved for the Opposition bench.
